Orkwar, in a communiqué at the synod of the All Nations Evangelism Ministry, which he signed, described the bond as “unconstitutional, illegal and an attempt to Islamise Nigeria through the Sharia banking policy. It is a plan that is currently being executed through legislative action, that is, amendment of the Securities and Exchange Commission Acts. We encourage Christians to defend the secular nature of the Nigerian State.”
The Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, has denied the allegation, saying the loan was meant for the provision of infrastructure.
Orkwar also restated the organisation’s commitment to the unity of the country and called on the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to exercise restraint in exercising his right to freedom of expression.
He commended the Federal Government’s decision to dredge River Benue, to permanently solve perennial flooding in Benue, and called for priority given to payment of workers’ salaries and pensions.
