Ibrahim Magu
THE Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has said that it is the duty of every Nigerian to fight corruption in the country, stressing that he does not care the process employed in doing this but only wants result.
He stated this while answering questions from journalists shortly after the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) celebrated this year’s International Customs Day at the Customs Staff College at Gwagwalada, Abuja.
He said corruption was not something one person could fight, urging every Nigerian to key into the current battle against social vices.
“Corruption is one thing we cannot fight alone, because you should try to encourage everybody to fight corruption. We need all the support. I don’t care the process you use, I just want result. Make sure you fight corruption,” he said.
He expressed the confidence that the country would succeed in the ongoing war against corruption, despite some obstacles such as corruption, which he described as “mother of all crimes,” would eventually be conquered in the country.
“We will succeed (in the fight against corruption). Don’t worry, it is only roadblocks here and there but I am telling you, you and me; it is for all of us, every Nigerian must fight corruption because it is the mother of all crimes,” Magu declared.
Meanwhile, the EFCC boss also expressed support for the anti-corruption stance of the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Colonel Hameed Ibrahim Ali (retd).
Magu informed that he was always encouraged by Ali’s anti-corruption way of life and anti-corruption strategies, saying that was why he attended the Customs Day celebration.
“That one (renomination by President Muhammadu Buhari as EFCC chairman) should not come up this time. You should ask me why I came here. I believe in the Comptroller-General of Customs. I believe in his anti-corruption way of life, his anti-corruption strategies and I am always encouraged by his desire to fight corruption. That is why I am here,” he said.
Speaking on the theme for the celebration, “Data analysis for effective border management,” Magu said data analysis was very vital, particularly in the area of money laundering.
“Data analysis is very vital, particularly in money laundering related crimes. The analysis from data will make you know where you are moving next. It is very, very important. I believe in it,” he submitted.
