Evangelism: The current generation is distracted —Tully

Pastor Doyl Tully is the founder and president of Pure Heart Fellowship, Texas, United State of America. In this interview with OLAIDE SOKOYA, Tully described how this generation is being distracted and the way forward.

What is your mission in Nigeria?

My mission is to speak to the people of God: pastors, leaders, seminary students and thousands of people that are hungry for a message from God and that message is the word of God to shed light into lives and ministries.

There are indications you plan to launch a book: Becoming the voice of Fire. What is it all about?

The book is all about how God wants us as men and women to believe Him for the impossible or the great and mighty things he had done. God does not have problem with us, but the problem is with us. All minds and faiths are limited. Our hearts and minds have been limited by what surround us. So, God is giving me the opportunity to tell you all that God is mighty.

There are divergent views on the attitude of the current generation to evangelism. What is your take on the issue?

The new generation is distracted. The generation is distracted by materials such as phones, money, dresses, shoes, cars, and so on. All these things do not possess the way of God. The trend makes it difficult for God to reveal Himself to us. Phones are wonderful because communication is powerful; materials things are also needed but they must never come first in everything we do in our life.

You have been in the ministry for a very long time, what are some challenges you have had to faced?

It’s over 25 years of ministry. I have been exprenced so many challenges that people, no doubt, know. People who do not read and study claim to be theologians. People that would stand and criticise women and men of God feel they know more than anyone. The great challenges are never God; they are the persons that claim they know more than God. They claim they are something when they are nothing in the spirit dimension. There are two dimensions: this world and the spiritual dimension. People only see this world not the supernatural’s things of heaven like angels, demons. Yet people feel like they know. It’s hard for them to follow and take instructions. It’s hard for them to be covered by pastors or evangelist or any of those that are gifted and it’s a big challenge because church is heaven flow. One day, a church crowd might be up to 1000 and another day, they might just be 300 worshippers in the church. What changes? Many times it’s just the people freaking. One day, they are hot and another day they are cold. Jesus said I will spill you out. We must remain hot after God and ask God to bring his fire to us.

Some claim evangelism is fading away. How true is the claim?

I think the idea of sin abounds and no technology will ever take sins away. The things of this world are created for good and bad; the devil will take and begin to use for more and more evil. So, we have to be careful with what God blesses us with. Infidelity is everywhere but you and I can choose to be in holiness in relationship with the living God all others things can be used for our good and it’s just that men and women tend to show their views on what they are after.

What about soul winning?

The great call over my life is to go, “when fire from heaven comes, there is no one that can say no to God. Soul winning is not so much programmed; it is the presence of God falling on people. We all need fire of God to revive us.

 What is your advice to Christians?

Just be sure your heart is pure and be real before God. The bible says, ‘Ask, it shall be given to you; believe and you shall receive; seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened. This is what I call the greatest promise of the bible. My simplest advice to Christians is to ask, knock and seek.

How did Pure Heart Fellowship Church start?

Pure Heart Fellowship is a church that began in a home with 10 faithful families in Rowlett, Texas. Since April 10, 1994, we have lived out our vision of reaching, teaching, and discipling people for Christ. Matthew 5:8 says,”. The pure in heart shall see God.” The scripture is clear that the pure in heart, not the “perfect” shall see God. Realising that we are not perfect, it is our desire to see God in our lives and families on a daily basis – and share the message of the Gospel with the world.
