Epe residents protest land grabbers, realtor invasion of communities

Residents in Yegunda, Abomiti and Eyin Osa community in Epe, Lagos State, have protested the invasion of their communities by land grabbers and realtors.

The residents who staged a peaceful protest to the Lagos State House of Assembly also lamented neglect by the Lagos State government to providing succour to the communities that are affected by the Lekki Free Trade zone.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Barr. Olofinlade Oludayo stated that the indigenes who are real owners of the land live in penury while invaders are making millions of naira.

He claimed that the community have sent a letter appealing to the State Governor and the Speaker to intervene.

He said, “We know that Lagos State Government collects twenty five percent of income in the Lekki Free Trade zone as part of its internally generated revenue and I see no reason for the Government not to have intervened in the invasion by realtors and land grabbers who are taking over these communities.

“The real owners of the land live in penury while invaders are making multi millions and billions over peoples lands.”

A resident in Abomiti community, Mr Sanu Adekunle, expressed disappointment over some frivolous claims by some of the realtors.

He said, “The realtors have told us on different occasions that lands they are securing are for the State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu and the Chief of Staff of the Governor Mr Tayo Ayinde.”

Addressing the aggrieved protesters, Hon. Noheem Adams who represented the Speaker Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa commended the protesters for their peaceful conduct and calmness.

He appealed to the protesters that their letter will be looked into and the House will perform its legislative duties by calling on all parties involved.

He enjoined them to go back to their respective homes peacefully while they await a response from the House.

Members present who received the protesters include; Hon. Noheem Adams, Hon. Desmond Elliot, Hon. Ladi Ajomale, Hon. Kehinde Joseph and Hon. Surajudeen Tijani
