The Itsekiri-born chieftaincy title holder feared that through the EO6, “We are gradually fusing executive powers and judicial powers together in the hands of one person and it may hit us very soon.”
Handing out the call on his Facebook wall, the barrister admonished those applauding the Federal Government on the unpopular order to stop contributing to the gradual and possible emergence of dictatorship.
“This is bringing back 1985! Guys, wake up; the proper thing would have been to bring an application for an order to place such a person on the ban list.
“We are gradually fusing executive powers and judicial powers together in the hands of one person and it may hit us very soon.
“This is the test phase of the Executive Order 6! We need to shout out now before it is too late.
“I am saying should you want to create such a weather, let it call on all alike.
“But in the next few months, mark my words, you would have contributed immensely to the dictatorship of Buhari by your refusal to see what is obvious!” he warned.
Chief Ariyo, who was a former Delta House of Assembly aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) further observed that the ban list, which was on Sunday denied by the FG, was inexhaustive and tilted to elements of the opposition.
“You do not have to have a case in court to be on that ban list or have your property confiscated. Just ask yourself; what powers the ban list?
“We have just seen a situation where dictatorship is being tested and it will begin its nurturing before our noses and maybe, one day, we shall become victims; then too late to cry!
“I am really shocked that we can even suggest that cases are in court and these kinds of actions are being taken which should lawfully be in the domain of the courts, but now being carried out by the executive and we cannot see the violence it does?
“In simple terms, what this means is that the executive is now exercising concurrent jurisdiction with the courts in this respect,” the fiery lawyer opined.
