Enumerators trained on needs assessment of flood victims in Kwara

Enumerators from each political ward affected by flood in the Kwara North senatorial district of Kwara State have been trained on how to assess the needs of residents of riverine areas in the district.

Speaking at a four-day training of the enumerators for Needs Assessment Programme in Jebba town, Moro local government of area of the state, governing council member of the Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) representing Kwara State, Engineer Daud Taoheed, said the data collected would ensure even distribution of allocation to affected people and communities.

Engineer Taoheed also said that the training programme, organised by the (HYPPADEC) was meant to train participants to collect data on the needs of riverine communities affected by flood and other ecological hazards.

He said the data collected by participants after the training would be used to implement projects earmarked for the affected communities.

While urging the participants to be attentive at the training, he also urged them to carry out the assignment diligently and appealed to the affected communities to cooperate with them in discharging their duties.

HYPPADEC Director of Community Relations and Rural Development, Dr Mahmoud Umar, said the need assessment training became important in view of variations in the needs of affected communities.

Dr Mahmoud also said that HYPPADEC is a commission established to address challenges confronting communities in riverine areas such as Kwara, Kebbi, Kogi, Plateau, Niger and Benue States, as well as formulate policies and projects for hydropower producing areas.

The event, whose participants were drawn from different affected communities in the Kwara North district, was attended by the traditional ruler of Jebba, Oba Abdulkadir Ojibara, and other stakeholders from affected areas.

Also speaking, Oba Ojibara commended the agency for the proactive measures in place, saying that the communities have high expectations in their system.
