Enugu workers laud Ugwuanyi’s payment of June salaries without federal allocation

Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi

WORKERS of Enugu State employ have lauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for paying their June salaries without the federal allocation for the month.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the state Chairman and Secretary of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Comrade Igbokwe Chukwuma Igbokwe and Comrade Benneth Asogwa, the workers said that they were humbled by the governor’s in-depth commitment towards workers’ welfare in the state, which according to them “has distinguished you among your other colleagues and predecessors”.

Igbokwe recalled that Ugwuanyi had displayed a similar gesture several times since the inception of his administration, noting, “this particular one is happening at a time when some state governors have publicly stated that they cannot pay the June 2018 salaries because of the non release of federal allocation to the states”

The Labour Leader expressed gratitude to the governor and prayed God to continue to grant him divine wisdom as he strives “to put smiles on the faces of Enugu workers”.

Ugwuanyi had in the wake of the outcome of the monthly meeting of Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) last week, which ended in a deadlock, disclosed that his administrationhas paid the salaries of workers for the month of June without receiving the federal allocation.

The governor had maintained that despite the fact that he assumed office at the time the nation’s economy was in severe recession, his administration had been regular in payment of workers’ salaries, even when 27 states could not pay.
