Enugu police begin investigation into abduction of 4-year-old girl

THE police in Enugu have begun full investigation into the alleged abduction of a four-year-old girl by her aunt, who allegedly conspired with her lover to sell the baby for N350,000.

Metro learnt the plot by the suspects to abduct the baby girl started in December 2016 at Inyi in Oji-River Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the story on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amarizu, said the suspects were already in police custody while the Commissioner of Police, Douglas  Agbonleni, had since directed that every person involved in the inhuman act should be brought to book.

The PPRO recalled: “It all started on 15th of December, 2016 at about 12:45p.m., when it was reported that one Chinecherem Irechukwu, about four years old and a primary school pupil of Unity Primary School at Inyi in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu state, was missing without any trace.”

He said that the case was referred to the Gender/Anti Human Trafficking section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), headed by one Superintendent of Police, Udoka Gloria, which was directed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCIID, Mrs Janet Agbede to handle the case.

“In course of investigation, and following intelligence information gathered, one Chinnedu Chukwu, a female who was later discovered to be the immediate younger sister to the mother of the victim, was nabbed.

“Following her confession, one Osunkwo Chinonso was also arrested. In the course of investigation, it was discovered that Chinonso was Chinedu’s boyfriend. They had conspired and had come from Anambra State to the school where the young girl was lured and whisked away to Umuahia in Abia State. The victim was sold to one Florence Nwokocha for N350,000.”

Armed with the information, Metro gathered that detectives went after Nwokocha and arrested her, after which she led them to recover the abducted child from where she was kept at Faulks Road, Aba in Abia State on January 16.
