Enugu governor warns students against cutism, examination malpractices

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has warned students in primary and secondary schools as well as tertiary institutions in the state to shun cultism, examination malpractices and other anti-social vices so as to become useful citizens in the society.

Ugwuanyi who spoke through the Chief Supervisory Principal of the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), Agbani Zone, Mr. Sam Ani, while declaring open the 2019 School Prize Winning/Scholarship Competition held at Ugbawka, Enugu-East Local Government Area of the State, advised students to imbibe the culture of reading, pointing out that education remains the best legacy parents/guardians can give to their children/wards.

He maintained that the state government would continue to give priority to quality education, turning to the students, “nothing stops you from attaining greatness if you embrace education with all seriousness”

While commending the Pure Heart Foundation, Enugu, a non-governmental organisation, for putting up the event in an orderly manner, he urged other philanthropists and multi-nationals to partner with government in investing in education with a view to building a solid foundation for the children in the state.

In his remark, the Founder and Executive Director of the Pure Hear Foundation, Enugu, Honourable Peter Edeh, who was accompanied by his wife, Rachael, explained that the primary mission of the Organisation (Pure Heart Foundation) is on charity work, saying that they had come “to give back to the society through encouraging reading culture in our children at secondary school level”

“I thank His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for providing an enabling environment for teachers in the state particularly in the regular payment of salaries and provision of infrastructures.

I immensely thank the governor for his pragmatic approach to the welfare of the people and he will reap the rewards of his good works”, Edeh added.

Edeh, Councilor representing Nkanu-East Ward 2, recalled that he had the concept of organising quiz competition when he was in secondary school, stressing that the competition would be an annual event that would spread beyond the current zone.

“We also embark on training of youths on leadership and economic empowerment. We are not happy over the way many of our children abandon their books for social activities. It is not good for the nation as it portends danger”, he added.

Deputy Chairman of the Nkanu-East Local Government Council, Honourable Joe Ogenyi, presented the first prizes of the quiz competition which included books and other writing materials to Ogbonna Favour Chiamaka and Nwodo Emeka John from Comprehensive

Secondary School. Isigwe while runners up, Nwodo Perpetual Chizaramekpere and Abia Blessing Chima from Community Secondary School, Amafor, all in Ugbawka,  received their consolatory prizes of books from the Chairman of the occasion, Honourable Chinedu Ani.
