Enugu APC primaries: DG VON, Okechukwu, in early lead

THE Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), has secured a comfortable lead in the primary election of All Progressives Congress (APC) for Enugu West senatorial zone poll.

It was observed that although the collation of votes was ongoing as at press time on Wednesday, results from various wards in the district, placed Okechukwu in a comfortable lead, ahead of other contenders.

At Eke ward, his hometown in Udi LGA, Okechukwu’s polled 651 votes, while his closest opponent, Juliet Ibekaku got 3 votes.

Philip Eze, the returning officer from Ekeh ward announced the result for the exercise which held in a peaceful atmosphere.

Feelers emanating from other wards in Udi and neighbouring Ezeagu LGA indicated that Okechukwu was also maintaining a clear lead, ahead of other contenders in the primary, conducted through direct primary mode.

Earlier at the party secretariat, Dr Ben Nwoye, the state chairman, announced to all the aspirants that the primary elections would be conducted using the direct primary mode as sanctioned by the National Working Committee (NWC) of APC.

It could be recalled that Enugu State chapter of APC had earlier adopted indirect primary and consensus mode, but the NWC reversed the decision and approved direct primary mode for all the primary elections in the state.
