Geofrey Onyeama, Foreign Affairs Minister
LEADERSHIP of the Enugu State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to withdraw the ministerial nomination of the ex-Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Godfrey Onyeama, over his alleged anti-party activities during his first tenure.
Briefing newsmen in Enugu on Friday after the party’s SWC meeting in Enugu, the State Chairman of the party, Dr Ben Nwoye, recalled that the former Minister was alleged to have invaded the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium the venue of the last party primaries with political thugs, causing violence that almost took his life and two of his aides.
The Working Committee, Dr Nwoye said, resolved that going by Onyeama’s alleged abysmal performance during his first tenure, he ought not to have given any other opportunity to serve in the second term, stressing the former minister did more harm than good to APC in the state.
“Reappointment of Onyeama whose name was among the 42 Ministerial nominees sent to the senate by President Buhari for possible confirmation was not for the interest of Enugu State and Nigeria, ethnicity, religious and political inclinations notwithstanding”, Nwoye added.
According to him, “the ex-foreign Affairs Minister did more harm than good to APC in Enugu state during his first outing as a minister. He never believed in party supremacy. Rather joining hands with the leadership of APC in the state to ensure the progress of the party, Onyeama, was busy wasting taxpayers’ money in sponsoring crisis and sowing seed of discord”

Dr Nwoye insisted that reappointing the former minister into the federal executive council will further destroy the party in Enugu State because he is a man who has a penchant for thuggery and pulling down of party structure”
“Aside Enugu state, Nigerians in the diaspora, never felt the impact of Oyeama’s office for the four years he occupied the foreign Affair’s ministry seat, adding that Nigerians were been slaughtered almost on daily basis in parts of the world, without any comment or reaction from his office.
Nwoye also called on the leadership of the National Assembly to carry out a proper investigation on the allegation of tax evasion by Onyeama, saying he lied on oath during his screening by the eight senate.
On some of the party leaders in the state calling for his sack from office, the APC State boss said they had no legal rights to speak on issues concerning the party because they had since been expelled from the party.
