Enugu APC insists on rotation, supports Igbo presidency in 2023

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State Chapter has described the recent defection of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to All Progressives Congress (APC) as a good omen to Igbo nation, just it insists Igbo presidency remains 2023.

While commending Senator Ken Nnamani and other eminent Ndigbo sons and daughters for joining the APC, the State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mrs. Kate Offor, told newsmen in Enugu on Sunday, “For us the exodus of Ndigbo from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) into the APC is a testimony and a realisation that its bad politics to put all our eggs in one basket, so no one ethnic group can benefit in isolation. It is better for Ndigbo to play in the big league and mainstream of Nigeria”

Mrs. Offor said, “The surge is also a vindication of our true position that in the fullness of time, Ndigbo stands to gain more from President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime than they did in the Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr Goodluck Jonathan’s regime”

On why Ndigbo should expect gains, when Buhari’s appointment is skewed against Ndigbo she quipped, “Appointment and re-appointment is a continuous exercise, all we know is that if Ndigbo supports Buhari our infrastructure, like roads will be revamped and our prosperity rekindled. Whereas, in the last 16 years we had prominent positions – Secretary to Government, Minister of Finance, Ministers of Power, Deputy Senate President, Deputy Speaker etc; good roads, hospitals, schools and electricity decayed and poverty, unemployment and hunger multiplied. 1% became millionaires and 99% became poor”

Reacting to ex-president Chief Obasanjo’s proposal for president of Nigeria of Igbo extraction in 2019, she said, ” in political domain there is the law with its legal teeth and the convention with its moral weight, the political convention today in Nigeria which the ex-president is a prime beneficiary states – Rotation of President – South 8 years and North 8 years – we stand by that convention.

“Since our entry into the Fourth Republic in 1999, we supported Obasanjo, the South West by extension, we supported Jonathan, South South by extension, now that Ndigbo has resolved to support Buhari, we are hopeful of 2023”

“Therefore, we welcome all into the APC, especially those who will contribute to the actualisation of more united, prosperous and progressive Nigeria.” Mrs Ofor concluded.
