Entertainers await Sanwo-Olu’s road map for creative industry

Prominent entertainers in Lagos State have expressed their desire to key into the road map of the state governor, Babjide Sanwo-Olu, for the creative industry as they tasked the number one man in the state to roll out his plans.

Sanwo-Olu had promised to pay attention to the creative industry during some of his interactive sessions with stakeholders in the industry in the build-up to the election that brought him into government.

A popular comedian, Okey Bakassi, while speaking with R on his expectations from the state government, said he and other entertainers were waiting on the road map of the governor and his team for the creative industry.

According to him, the creative industry is one sector that governments at all levels have not really paid attention to, insisting that if the government could only create enabling environment for the practitioners, the turnover would be massive.

“I can tell you that the entertainment industry is one critical sector that the government has failed to utilise very well because they felt it is not oil industry. If the entertainers could be given that enabling environment to operate, there would be prosperity in the land. We hope that Sanwo-Olu would carry the entertainers along and implement policies that could turn things round.”

Also sharing his view, legendary DJ, DJ Jimmy Jatt, said stakeholders held series of discussions with the government last year and hoped that issues discussed at the meetings would implemented.

“I believe we had talked about how to move the industry forward. In this dispensation, I expect the government to start taking necessary steps that would show the people that something big is about to happen. We are waiting on the state government and Federal Government to do what was necessary and help the creative industry to grow,” he said.
