Ensure transparency in spending allocations, Foundation tells Ekiti gov

The Opeyemi David Falegan Foundation (ODF) has urged Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to ensure transparency and accountability in the management of the state’s increasing federal allocation.

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, ODF founder Opeyemi David Falegan expressed concern over the living conditions of the state’s residents, particularly given the rising costs of food, fuel, and other essential services.

Falegan emphasized that the governor must be intentional in implementing programs that alleviate the suffering of citizens, especially in light of the increased federal allocation to the state over the past year.

“We are deeply concerned about the plight of the poor masses in Ekiti, whose conditions have not improved despite the rising federal allocation and government palliatives.

This is due to mismanagement, lack of foresight, and misplacement of priorities by the Governor,” Falegan stated.

He added, “There is little to show for the public funds being spent, with no tangible benefits for the poor masses. Instead, the Governor seems preoccupied with securing a second term, even though he has not yet completed two years in office.”

Falegan stressed that it is the constitutional right of citizens to inquire about how public funds are being spent and to demand accountability from the government.

In response, the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, asserted that the state’s allocations were being managed prudently.

He noted that the Oyebanji administration had received recognition from Transparency International and other reputable global organizations for its transparency.

Olatunbosun further explained that the details of the state’s monthly allocations from the Federation Account are regularly published on the government’s official website.

He added that Falegan’s perception of the administration does not align with the widespread commendation Governor Oyebanji has received from the public and even objective critics.
