Ensure regular checkup of your health, Abia commissioner tells nursing mothers

Abia state Commissioner for Health, Dr John Ahukanna has challenged nursing mothers in the state to regularly visit primary health centres in the interest of their health and the unborn child.

He also cautioned them against patronising unauthorised health centres to avoid dangers of health-related cases.

Dr Ahukanna who stated this while inaugurating an ultra-modern health facility otherwise known as 72-hour makeover at family planning unit of World Bank Primary Health Centre, Umuahia, said the facility was to ensure that mothers receive quality health care as guaranteed by the state government.

He charged them to register with state primary health centres to enable them to benefit from free medical treatment and drugs.

He revealed that the basic health care provision fund of N2billion expected to transform the primary health centres would be utilised in the provision of electricity, potable water and quality drugs to boost efficiency in that direction.

hukanna added that state government’s resolve for quality health care of the people necessitated The Challenge Initiative (TCI) Nigeria for this laudable achievement, while he encouraged the care mothers to adhere strictly to drugs recommendation by the relevant boards to improve their health.

Also speaking at the occasion, Executive Secretary Abia state Primary Health Care, Dr Chinagozie Adindu amd secretary of Umuahia North Primary Health Care Development Agency Ngozi Uwasomba, said the the concept of 72-hour makeover for the selected health facilities was an initiative that is worthy of emulation.
