In a major step forward on road safety and driver competence, HGVT, the United Kingdom’s leading Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV) driver training provider, is pleased to announce its latest project with Aldi training over 50 Class 1 HGV drivers. This is a joint commitment to logistics excellence and sustainable transportation.
Category C+E or Class 1 HGV drivers are licensed to drive the largest and most complicated heavy goods vehicles. Articulated lorries with trailers over 750kg, for instance, play an important role in the long-distance freight and logistics industry and demand high levels of skill and safety awareness.
HGVT’s training program is tailored to meet the specific needs of Aldi’s operational requirements and will focus on a variety of key areas:
The timing of this training couldn’t have been better. It comes as Aldi revealed it will switch more than 30 percent of its fleet to hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuels to cut its carbon footprint. Aldi and HGVT are pushing the boundaries in the logistics sector by matching driver skills to environmental sustainability.
Gary Benardout, CEO at HGVT,says, “The training of over 50 Aldi Class 1 drivers is a landmark moment in our drive to raise the bar for HGV driving in the UK. We have taken great care in creating our comprehensive training programs to meetlegal requirements. Our goal is to make each driver their most capable self, so safety and efficiency are the most inherent realities when you are on the road. This effort is one of many within our broader aim to encourage best practices in the transportation sector and to further the education of drivers in key aspects of their operation.”
Beyond the skill set enhancement for Aldi’s drivers, this partnership greatly helps to achieve the broader goals of reducing road traffic accidents and carbon emissions in the logistics industry. HGVT is looking at raising the bar for the industry with advanced training for drivers and an eye on sustainability. The training partnershipblends Aldi’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and HGVT’s on going commitment to the highest level of safety and excellence in driver education. Logistics is all aboutworking together to create a safer, moreefficient, and environmentally responsible future.
