Engineer appears in court for alleged theft

THE police, on Thursday, arraigned a 32-year old building engineer, Afolabi Saanu, before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing a gate valued N200,000.

Saanu, who resides at No 3, Saanu St., Adura Bus Stop, Agbado, Lagos, is being tried for stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Mike Unah, told the court that the accused allegedly committed the offence on May 1 at Unity St., Alakuko, a Lagos suburb.

Unah alleged that the accused, who is a site engineer, stole a gate valued N200,000, belonging to Total Quality Engineering Company Lagos.

He told the court that the company security guards said that they saw the accused selling the gate to a wheelbarrow pusher.

“He was apprehended by the security guards, who later handed him over to the police,’’ he said.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, Mr A.A Fashola, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to May 30 for the mention.
