EndSARS: I’m pained seeing damaged structures in Asaba

Published by

Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has bemoaned the colossal losses during the recent EndSARS protests in the state saying he was pained any time he sees the wrecks of infrastructure destroyed in Asaba, the state capital.

Most of the infrastructure razed down are mainly within Coka axis of the town which include high court complex where over 3000 case files were burnt, beautification park, and federal road safety corps office.

Speaking at his first media interactive for 2020 in Asaba on Tuesday, Okowa said he was always hurt whenever he passes through the popular Coka junction beholding the destruction done to the aesthetics of the park.

According to him, it would be difficult to quantify the losses but said actions were being taken to rebuild the structures.

The governor who consistently maintained that perpetrators of the act came from across the river Niger disclosing however that Delta capital territory development agency was already liaising with Zenith bank in its plan to restore the beautification park.

He added that the Coka interchange would be redesigned to put an end to traffic gridlock in the area.

Okowa said the process for the concessioning of the Asaba international airport which has been on for the past three years has been completed.

The agreement for the concessioning, he explained, would soon be signed with a consortium hoping that this would have way for.

On the Agro park at Aboh- Ogwashi, the governor said the state had secured funds to actualise the project with 20 hectares for oil palm trees and 5000 hectares for cassava being cultivated.
