Artistes like Olamide, Wizkid, Banky W, D’banj, among others, are regularly smiling to the bank as a result of proceeds from endorsement deals within and outside the country, with Davido’s multi-million dollars deal as Infinix ambassador being the latest.
For Ycee, rated as one of the hottest modern Nigerian rappers, whose songs such as Jagaban, Juice, Omo Alhaji have topped music charts in the country at different times, when the deals don’t come, it might appear one has not done enough.
Ycee may not be new to stardom as his songs are as popular as his name, but the rapper, who is signed to Tinny Entertainment appeared to have struggled in recent times to attach his brand to major deals like his colleagues.
This may have explained his rant on Twitter days back, when he took to his official account to express his indignation, which may have been provoked by what he perceived as the lack of endorsement deals, which according to him, have been circulating around the same set of people for a long time.
Ycee is indeed ruffled about the concentration of deals within a circle of artistes, concluding that the maxim “young shall grow is not obtainable in Nigeria.”
In his tweet, the rapper said: “Endorsements keep circulating around the same people. They say the young shall grow but no be for naija.
Ycee feels he deserves more than he gets from the industry because of the level of hard work he has put in his craft over the years, but some of his fans disagreed.
Some of them, who saw the tweet, simply told the rapper to raise his game, wondering when was the last time he had a hit song like some of his colleagues, who have remained in the spotlight because of their songs.
A fan said: “I concur with you bro… But sometimes it depends on how you brand yourself in the industry that brings the endorsement bro. Another fan said: “The secret is, you have to stay relevant. Keep dropping your hit and also have some side attractions along with it. Davido is dropping hits & involving himself in controversies. You think Assurance is not a strategy?”
Ycee did not respond to any of the tweets as of press time.
