Senator representing Niger East, Sani Musa, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ordering the release of detained minors being prosecuted for their role in the EndBad Governance Protest.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced this to State House correspondents during an emergency briefing at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
Among other measures, President Tinubu also directed “that all law enforcement agents involved in the arrest and legal processes will be investigated, and if any infractions are found to have been committed by any government official, whether from a law enforcement agency or another authority, disciplinary action will be taken against them.”
The directive followed public uproar over the trial of at least 76 people, including 30 children, who were arraigned last Friday and charged with 10 felony counts, including treason, destruction of property, public disturbance, and mutiny.
Senator Musa, in a statement issued in Abuja, commended “the President for his decisive and compassionate directive to release all detained minors and ensure they are safely reunited with their families across the country.

This action demonstrates a profound commitment to justice and humanity and reflects a true spirit of leadership. It is both a relief and a source of reassurance for families affected by these unfortunate incidents.”
The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance also supported President Tinubu’s stance that disciplinary action should be taken against law enforcement personnel culpable in the trial of the minors.
“At the same time, it is disappointing to witness the senseless conduct exhibited by the Inspector General of Police’s comments on the minors and the involved police prosecutors.
Such actions not only undermine public trust in our law enforcement agencies but also contradict the principles of justice and the welfare of our children.
I urge that a thorough investigation, as directed, brings accountability to those responsible, and I call upon all stakeholders to ensure that such incidents do not recur
