The youths were seen dressed in black attires along Dugbe-Mokola road with various placards, reiterating the need for the government to take adequate care of its citizens by devising means to end fatalities that are avoidable.
The consistent shedding of blood in Nigeria by herdsmen around the country, the recent petrol tanker fire on the Otedola Bridge in Lagos and the bloody police, butchers clash in Ibadan has left many Nigerians with no choice other than to find other ways of pouring out their grievances.
While speaking on the protest, the convener, Emitomo Oluwatobiloba, said all the tragedies are avoidable and could be averted if the government and necessary agencies are doing what is expected of them.
“Today, we are out in our numbers not just to protest against the killings, but also to mourn the dead who now cease to exist due to the recent tragedies,” She said.
Also speaking on the protest, Adebayo Adegbite said it is time for the government to know that being the most populous black nation doesn’t mean the government should handle the welfare of the citizens with levity hand.
“The government needs to understand that we are not just numbers and as such, should know that every life counts.
“We want the government to put an end to all these deaths, as they are avoidable,” he said.
While talking on how these deaths can be avoided, Asudemade Habeebulllah said: “Every sector that can affect human lives should be taken care of, by doing this, these deaths can be avoided.”
He stressed further that the government needs to consider the lives of the citizens in all the policies they make.
The protesters also sensitised people on the street about some precautionary measures to keep their lives safe.
