The call was made by the Dean of Myawege Division of the LCCN, Reverend Samuel Maigoro, on Friday, in Bauchi, at the Annual Myawege Divisional Conference 2018, held at LCCN, Bauchi.
Declaring the three-day conference, with the theme: In A Time Like This, opened, he called on President Buhari to also take steps to end the killings, and bring the perpetrators to book.
Reverend Goro, who doubles as the Executive Director of Centre for Peace and Advancement in Nigeria (CEPAN), warned that if handled with kid’s gloves, the current herdsmen/farmers’ clashes were capable of igniting ethno-religious conflict that could engulf the entire country.
In his admonition, the District Pastor, LCCN, Bauchi, Reverend Evans Leviticus Bigila, while speaking on the topic, Watch and Pray in a Time Like This, said the Bible predicted that perilous times would come.
Bigila observed that although the Buhari administration was able to curtail the activities of Boko Haram insurgents, the response to the herdsmen’s onslaught left much to be desired.
“If the government cannot provide security for us, we must take steps to protect ourselves from being slaughtered in our own country. We must, therefore, be vigilant and prayerful in these times,” he said.
The Myawege Divisional Annual Conference, which drew participants from LCCN Churches in Adamawa, Bauchi and Plateau states, comprised Jos Bethel, Dogon Karfe, Bauchi, Gombe, Ashaka Districts and will end today with a church service.
