The Restored Heart Foundation (RHF) has announced the closure of its Teacher Bank Project in Government Day Secondary School (GDSS), New Bwari, Niger State.
The program, which was launched in September 2022 to address the educational divide in rural Nigeria, started with 459 students at GDSS, New Bwari, and has grown significantly to over 600 students, marking a 23.5% increase in enrollment.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the organisation following the closeout ceremony held on Tuesday, August 2, at the GDSS premises in New Bwari,.
According to the statement, the success of the project “can be attributed to the deployment of qualified teachers, which encouraged parents in the Tafa community to enroll their children at GDSS New Bwari. Over 80.8% of respondents have received additional academic support and guidance, leading to substantial improvements in their Mathematics and English performance.
“The close-out ceremony served as a momentous occasion to commemorate the achievements of the initiative and its transformative effect on the lives of students and the community. Speaking at the ceremony, Samuel Oluwatimilehin, the founder/Executive Director of The Restored Heart Foundation, expressed gratitude and highlighted the impact of the initiative.”
The event, which was graced by distinguished guests, including the Area Director of Quality Assurance and Standard Agency for Schools from the Ministry of Education, along with his team member, partners from Zillion Miles Consulting who served as mentors to the teachers and the esteemed community head, Chief of Sabo Bwari, and his cabinet members, underscored the importance and impact of the Teacher Bank Project.
Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of the organisation, Samuel Oluwatimilehin, acknowledged the dedication of teachers, the support of partners, and the resilience of students and the community.
“None of this would have been possible without the incredible support and dedication of our remarkable teacher fellows and the amazing team at The Restored Heart Foundation. These individuals have not only guided our students inside the classroom walls but have also been mentors, role models, and friends,” the statement quoted Oluwatimilehin.
Continuing, the ED spoke on the impact of the project on the lives of the students and the community, adding that the Restored Heart Foundation is committed to building on this success and expanding its reach to touch more lives.
“We will continue to support you at GSS Bwari by providing scholarships to promising and well-deserving students, as well as some form of lifelong engagement by ensuring that we can build strongly on the foundation we have laid,” the statement added.
While urging the students to make their voices heard, dream big and not be afraid to step out of their comfort zones, Oluwatimilehin appreciated the organisation’s partners for the collaborative support the Teacher Bank Project received in Government Day Secondary School New Bwari, describing it as a contributing factor to its success.
