Emmanuel Alayande University matriculates 2,754 students in first year

Emmanuel Alayande University, Oyo has held its first matriculation ceremony with the admission of 2,754 students into various degree programmes as approved by the Nigerian University Commission.

The students are admitted for 50 academic programmes in the five NUC approved Facilities.

The Vice- Chancellor of the Institution Prof. Olanrewaju Olaniyan disclosed that the institution which formerly operated as College of Education was licensed by the NUC in December 16,2023.

He added that the management of the institution has put in place different programmes at ensuring an effective takes off.

According to him, Since August, 2023, we have been able to embark on the redesignation of all staff from the College of Education Structure to the University Structure.

“We were able to present 50 programmes for NUC Resource Verification Exercise to be able to admit students into the courses.

“By December 2024, 50 academic programmes were approved after the rigorous resource verification exercise of the NUC. As at today, the university has five Faculties, 20 departments and 50 academic programmes.”

He explained that despite the fact that the university was only allowed to commence admission formalities by Joint Admission Matriculation Board in December 2023, 3,306 candidates who never took our university as first choice, applied for a change of course to be considered for admission in the university.

The VC said not every candidate who applied to the university was given admission as only 2,600 candidates were lucky to be given admission and will be matriculating.

Professor Olaniyan stressed further that all matriculants were admitted based on merit because they met the requirements of the university.

Our university is highly inclusive as today’s matriculating students come from 24 different States in all the six geopolitical zones of the country. Oyo state indigene account for 75% of the matriculants while non-Oyo state indigene constitute 25% of total students that are matriculating .

‘Our university is also gender sensitive as there are more female students in the university than male students. Females account for 59% while male students account for 41%.

In his charge, Prof. Olaniyan urged the matriculating students to shun social vices.

His words, ‘I cherish and acknowledge you most specially. You need to always remember that you are the Pioneer students at this university.

The very first students of the university. The pathfinders and path shapers of the university. I implore you to remember why you are here. Please focus on acquiring the skills that will make you a better person.

Dear matriculants, this is the World, The university is a mini universe with different shapes and shades of people. Be careful of who you mix with. Shun evil and deviant acts.

The State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Saliu Adelabu, again reiterated the commitment of his administration towards the development of the institution.

Dignitaries at the event were the Chief Whip of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola from Atiba state Constituency, his counterpart from Oyo East/West Constituency, Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, principal officers of other state owned institutions and a host of others.
