Emir of Kano tasks Durotoye, Abdullahi-Iya on girl-child education if elected

The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, has tasked the Alliance for New Nigeria (ANN) presidential candidate, Mr Fela Durotoye and his running mate, Hadjia Khadijah Abdullahi-Iya to ensure they make girl-child education their priority if they eventually emerge as the next president and vice-president of the country.
Sanusi stated this while receiving the duo and party members during a courtesy visit to the Emir at his palace in Kano, on Wednesday.
The Emir and his council acknowledged that Nigeria’s democratic space now has options of candidates and the Nigerian voters can make choices.
He advised Nigerians to look beyond parties during the presidential election and vote for individuals considered presenting the best plans for the country, just as he charged all electorate to be peaceful during and after the elections.
In his remarks. Durotoye said: “It was such a great honour to have been received by the Emir of Kano at his palace. His words of encouragement and blessing for the journey ahead are truly priceless to me and my running mate.
“As a prominent and vocal champion for educating the girl-child, he inspired much of the work that my running mate has done over the years, educating girls and young women across Northern Nigeria,” he added.
He promised that he would restore Kano to its rightful place as an economic nerve centre of not only Northern Nigeria part of the country, but of West Africa at large.
He said his governorship would provide opportunities for all irrespective of tribe or social class.
