Embrace digital vigilance — Abia CP, others charge govts

Published by

The Federal Government and Abia State in particular have been advised to embrace digital vigilance in view of the sophistication of insecurity in the country.

The Abia State Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwumelie and an ICT provider, Ezeji Foundation Network and Security Services, EFNSS handed down this advice Saturday in a security sensitization in Umuahia.

CP Onwumelie said, “We are in purely digital age and Nigeria, particularly, Abia State is not left out. Many businesses are migrating online in this robotic age

“As a modern day method of preventing crime, security services come in hand for digital vigilance”, calling for synergy over global digitalisation.

Represented by the Head of ICT, Moses Okeke, the Commissioner advised that apart from hardware component of security, there is the need to diversify in Robotic Services Automation so that it can be used to enhance services for a safer society.

In his speech, the MD/CEO of Ezeji Foundation Network and Security Services (EFNSS), Engr. Ezeji Patrick Nwogu said the essence of the summit was to support security agencies in Nigeria, particularly in Abia to do their work, stating that he is collaborating with China and Japan to build gadgets for security purposes and to train security personnel.

He advised government at all levels and institutions to embrace modern day digital surveillance as criminals these days circumvent security cameras by covering their faces and even demobilising the monitors, and urged stakeholders in security businesses to embrace modern security equipment that can unmask masked intruders in any environment.

He disclosed that the sensitization happened in Abia because of good governance provided by the current administration of Alex Otti in the state, adding that even the entire south east can be monitored, day and night with modern day security equipment, “putting into consideration what is happening in the south east”.

Lectures on modern day security equipment and methods were delivered by Richard Nwoye of VITRACK, Marshall David Udo and Christopher Orji.
