The National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) has urged the Ondo students under the Joint Campus Council to embrace dialogue and understanding as the best approach to addressing the challenges confronting the state rather than resorting to protests.
The National Public Relations Officer of NAN, Comrade Eniola Orowole, who made this call in a statement signed by him, said the leadership of the students’ union understand the frustrations and concerns of the students but urged them to engage in respectful and solution-oriented discussions with the state government.
Orowole who noted the efforts of the state governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, towards the development of the state said Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated commitment to the students’ community and the state at large since he assumed office.
He said “while we understand the frustrations and concerns of our fellow students, we strongly believe that constructive dialogue and collective progress are the keys to achieving meaningful change.
“Rather than pursuing selfish interests or baseless protests, we urge our colleagues to engage in respectful and solution-oriented discussions with the state government”
According to him, “It is crucial that we acknowledge the efforts of Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, the Governor of Ondo State, who has demonstrated a commitment to the students’ community and the state at large since he assumed office.
“It’s imperative to note that some of the achievement of Governor Aiyedatiwa since assumed office which includes the below and more in the Educational sector of Ondo State:
” Increased State Bursary, the governor has increased the state bursary from ₦10,000 to ₦20,000 per year, alleviating the financial burden on students.
“He cleared the arrears owed to Rufus Giwa Polytechnic staff by the previous government, showcasing his commitment to the well-being of educators.
“Investing in Education, Aiyedatiwa had also approved significant funds for prominent institutions in the state, including N2b for the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) and N1billion for the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) and AAUA”
In the area of Infrastructure development, the Ondo state governor initiated the dualization of roads connecting various campuses, facilitating easier access and mobility for students.
“He also ensured the prompt payment of staff salaries at tertiary institutions within the state, demonstrating his commitment to the welfare of educators”
“These achievements demonstrate Governor Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to the welfare of students and the general public.
“Rather than describing the Governor as someone who makes fake promises, he has shown a genuine commitment to the development of Ondo State educational sector and he’s not stopping according to him.
“As stakeholders in the state development, it is our collective responsibility to ensure that our contributions are meaningful and impactful.
“Let us work together to promote constructive dialogue and collective progress, rather than pursuing selfish interests or baseless protests” he said
Orowole further emphasized that if it becomes necessary to take action against any government with policies that are detrimental to students, it will be a unified effort rather than an individual pursuit.
“This collective struggle will prioritize the welfare of students over personal interests, avoiding unnecessary attention-seeking from the government”, Orowole stated.
