Published by

The Nigerian Port Authority (NPA) has explained that its decision to carry out massive infrastructural upgrades in its port and harbor facilities across Lagos, Port Harcourt/Bonny, Warri and Calabar was informed by the need to meet growing demands of Nigerians, while also representing its crave for capacity expansion in port facilities.

Speaking during the NPA Day at the ongoing Lagos International Trade Fair in Lagos, the Managing Director of the Authority, Hadiza Bala Usman, stated that as a critical stakeholder in the nation’s economy,  development of port infrastructures had become imperative for the Authority  to enable it contribute its own quota to the growth  of the nation’s economy.

According to her, some of those infrastructural developments the Authority had carried out include the rehabilitation of rail network in Lagos Port Complex and Port Harcourt and the upgrade of 1.6km dual carriage way within Lagos Port complex.

She added that the infrastructural developments had led to improvement in cargo and vessels turn-around time at the ports.
