Elements moving with sophisticated weapons, Group raises alarm

A pressure group christened Plateau Initiative for the Development and Advancement of the Natives (PIDAN), has raised an alarm over activities of some elements in some parts of Plateau State moving around with sophisticated weapon and destroying farm lands.

The pressure group in an statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Stephen Sarki Musa and made available to Tribune Online in Jos called on the Plateau State Government and security agencies to look into the issue adding that the criminal elements also engaged in nefarious activities such as raping of women and robbing people, especially around the Mushere area of Bokkos Local Government Areas.

It called on the government to provide security in the areas and as well arrest the situation where cows are herded at night, especially in Jos metropolis and as well enact a law against such night movements.

On the three months ultimatum given to the Igbos to vacate Northern Nigeria by the Arewa Youths, the group described such as barbaric, callous, reckless and untenable adding that PIDAN, which is the umbrella body of all the 54 ethnic Community Development Associations in Plateau State dissociated itself from the statement.

According to PIDAN the statement was illegal and unconstitutional adding that the group has no right to speak for Plateau, more so that the state was not consulted at any level and commended the Plateau State Governor, Rt. Hon. Barr. Simon Bako Lalong for reacting swiftly and reassuring non-indigenous people of the state of their safety while in the State.

The group urged the Governor to be more vigilant and beef up more security since the call by the so-called Arewa youths presents strong security threats to the State and Nigeria in general.
