Elections: Sokoto APC, PDP condemns INEC over postponement, asks chairman to resign

Published by

THE Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Presidential and Gubernatorial Campaign Council in Sokoto State, Engineer Bello Suleiman has condemned the actions of Professor Mahmood Yakubu led Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) over the sudden and unexpected postponement of 2019 general elections.

Speaking with a selected journalist in Sokoto, Suleiman challenged INEC boss to tell Nigerians the truth behind the postponement.

According to him, ” Imagine someone telling everyone twenty-four hours before the election that everything is in order, only to come back twelve hours later to announce the election has been postponed.

” This is unbecoming and not just an embarrassment to the country but even before the International communities,” he stated.

The Campaign Chairman said Nigerians should hold someone responsible for this national embarrassment to avoid a repetition in future.

Meanwhile, the Campaign Director General of All Progressives Congress, ( APC) in the Sokoto State, Honourable Yusuf Suleiman also expressed his disappointment in the way INEC handle the issue.

Speaking with our correspondent, Honourable Yusuf Suleiman who was also a former Minister for Transportation revealed that his position is not different from that of the presidential campaign council of the party.

According to Suleiman, ” Like every other Nigerian, I am disappointed, this is so sudden, we were terribly disappointed. Professor Mahmood Yakubu should take responsibility and resign.

” My only concern is that President Muhammadu Buhari would have been returned this night for his second term and we would have recorded majority wins in the National Assembly elections,” he maintained.

The former Minister, however, explained that he would prefer an INEC that will conduct a free and fair election in respect of inconclusive or postponed elections.
