Ahead of the 2019 general elections, the Bauchi State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced training exercise for corps members deployed to be used as ad-hoc support staff for the conduct of the elections.
While declaring open the training exercise on Thursday, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) who was represented by the Registration Officer, Alhaji Huzaifa Ismail said the workshop is taking place simultaneously in all the 20 Local Government Areas of the state.
He revealed that the decision to start the 2019 maiden training with corps members in the state was informed by the fact that they are the most important set of ad-hoc staff of INEC above any other groups.
He added that competent trainers have been deployed to all the 20 LGAs of the state for the exercise adding that they would work hand in hand with the NYSC field officers.
According to him, the training exercise would be conducted on every Thursday for three weeks at the end of which a general training would be carried out on 29th of January, 2019.
The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Mr James Afolayan assured the corps members that all the necessary arrangements were being put in place to ensure their maximum security and welfare before, during and after the 2019 general elections in the state.
Afolayan then charged corps members to be serious with the exercise. He expressed confidence that they will even outdo their predecessors in delivering free and fair elections.
