Election materials sent to Taraba in safe hands ― INEC

Contrary to insinuations by politicians that the election materials sent by Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to conduct the postponed presidential and National Assembly election will be used to compromise the rescheduled polls, the commission said the materials were in safe hands.

This was disclosed to journalists by the director of information INEC, Taraba State office, Mr. Febian Yame on Saturday during an inspection of the materials at the INEC office in Jalingo, the state capital.

Yame while assuring journalists on the safety of the election materials, Yame also debunked rumours by some politicians that the materials would be used to compromise the Saturday’s elections.

He narrated that the postponement of the election will give the commission an advantage to prepare very well for distribution of election materials across the state ahead of time.

Meanwhile, both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have express their disappointment over the postponement of the February 16 presidential / national assembly elections.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the governor of Taraba State, Bala Danhabu while speaking on behalf of Governor Darius Ishaku said the postponement of the election to the PDP in the state was like a student who prepared very well for examination while his teacher fails to turn up with the examination materials in the class.

Danhabu said the PDP in the state was sure of victory if at all the election was conducted as scheduled, he further narrated that it was another opportunity to the people of the state to prepare more than ever for the election if INEC would deliver materials to hard-to-reach areas on time.

Also reacting on the development, the PDP Taraba State chapter accused the INEC of having hidden agenda by putting off election at the last hour of the planed date.

The spokesperson of the party in the state, Inunwa Bakare while speaking to Tribune Online assured the people of the state of the readiness of the party to participate and win elections at anytime INEC conduct the polls

The spokesperson of the APC in the state, Mr. Aeron Atimas also told our correspondent that his party has lost so much as a result of the postponement of the election, he said due to scarce resources available to the party in the state, it was great lost after mobilising the supporters to go for the polls and give the party massive support to win the elections.

Aeron further stressed that his party was on ground in the state fully enough to win all elections if properly conducted by INEC.

It will be recall that INEC in the early hours of Saturday postponed the 16th February presidential/national assembly general election which raised dust in some political quarters that the already delivered election materials in the hands of states offices of INEC may be use to compromise the process come Saturday.
