At least one person was shot dead on Thursday evening in Ipogun community in the Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo state when security details of the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Idanre / Ifedore Federal constituency, Alhaji Tajudeen Adefisoye, shot dead a commercial motorcyclist rider.
It was gathered that Adefisoye was in Ipogun with his campaign train when the ugly incident happened around 7:05 pm when the commercial rider was shot.
According to an eyewitness, who explained that the campaign train had concluded its campaign inmate community and was about to take off when some hoodlums blocked the candidate to demand for some money.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) who confirmed the development said one person was shot dead during the incident.
He, however, said the details of the incident remained sketchy as at the time of writing this report but promised to get across the details when available.
He said ” one of the security aides attached to the candidate tried to clear the road to allow the candidate to escape from the scene while his gun triggered off and hit one of the commercial motorcycle riders.
They tried to rescue the deceased but he gave up before he could be taken out of the scene”
He, however, said this infuriated the residents of the community, who protested over the death of the Okada rider, threatening to revenge the death of the young boy.
it took the intervention of some people from the community to rescue Adefioye from the scene but two of his vehicles were set on fire by the angry mob.
He said policemen from the Ilara Mokin division were drafted to the scene to restore normalcy to the community.
