El-Zakzaky’s life under threat in DSS custody, IMN raises alarm

EVEN though the Department of State Services (DSS) claimed that the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), Shaikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenah are in protective custody at its detention facility, the Movement has raised the alarm that the life of the leader and his wife are under threat in the custody of the DSS.

The IMN leader and his wife have been in the custody of the DSS since 2016, in spite of the December 2, 2016 judgment of the Federal High Court, ordering their immediate release and payment of N50 million as compensation.

Recalled also that, the presidency in 2016 said that Shaikh El-Zakzaky is being held at his own will and for his benefit.

A statement yesterday signed by Shaibu Isah Ahmad, for the Movement said, after the claims of protecting Shaikh El-Zakzaky from his “enemies” by the Presidency, the authority, through the Kaduna state government charged him with murder.

The statement recalled that the Nigerian Army, on Friday 25th July 2014 shot 34 brothers and sisters of the Islamic movement including three of El-Zakzak’s sons, after a pro-Palestinian procession in Zaria.

“Following a stage-managed traffic obstruction on the 12th December 2015, the Nigerian Army raided the house of Shaikh El-Zakzaky and massacred over one thousand of brothers and sisters of the Movement including his 78-year-old sister, his nephew and his three sons.

“They shot him at close range, to kill him, but Allah wished to see him alive after the barbaric December attack. He has been denied proper medical care, but he is still living”, the statement added.

Ahmad said El-Zakzaky is battling with health challenges in the custody of the DSS and that the DSS denied him access to his doctors and family members.

The statement accused the Government of planning to change the current Judge presiding over the illegal trial of Shaikh El-Zakzaky in Kaduna court because he allegedly refused to succumb to the evil machinations of those that want him killed at all cost.

According to the Movement, El- Zakzaky is innocent and that he is been oppressed because of his stands against injustice and tyranny of puppets of Imperialist in Nigeria.

The statement said the federal government will be held responsible should anything happens to the leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.
