The management of El-Amin University, Minna, Niger State, has commenced strategic discussions with the University of West Bohemia to enhance research, education, and capacity building in the fields of social sciences and engineering.
The meeting was held at the Senate building of the university on Wednesday, 2nd April 2025.
Speaking to journalists afterwards, Professor Zahorik, a renowned expert in African studies, explained that his mission is to establish meaningful collaboration with El-Amin University, Minna, to exchange ideas across disciplines and sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
Professor Zahorik disclosed that his university had previously signed MoUs with universities in Abuja, Ibadan, and Lagos, while El-Amin is the only university from the northern region of the country to collaborate with the University of West Bohemia.
He stated that the meeting aimed to provide opportunities for El-Amin University in areas such as funding, capacity-building projects, and research initiatives. He added that the discussions would pave the way for further collaboration, especially in funding applications. According to Zahorik, the first area of interest is academic mobility, enabling both institutions to meet regularly to discuss potential advancements across various disciplines, including social sciences and engineering programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor of El-Amin University, Minna, Dr E.J. Zwanbin, remarked that this was one of the university’s first international collaborations. He highlighted that the partnership with the University of West Bohemia would enhance El-Amin University’s global rating, open up opportunities for funding, and enable staff to be trained abroad to acquire cutting-edge ideas on knowledge management and student development.
According to Dr Zwanbin, “We hope that in the coming months, we will begin to see the results, including sending our students abroad to learn.”
The Vice-Chancellor, while elaborating on the objectives of the discussion, revealed that the focus would centre on staff capacity building, training, and research in the future, as well as organising joint conferences and certifications. He noted that these would enable El-Amin University students to obtain foreign university certificates, among other benefits.
He stressed that the partnership is broad in scope but will initially prioritise capacity building, staff exchanges, and curriculum development.
Also speaking, the Pro-Chancellor of El-Amin University, Mohammed Ibrahim Babangida, noted that the university, which was established less than two years ago, had achieved a milestone by entering into a partnership with an international institution.
Mohammed highlighted that the collaboration covered a broad range of areas. He pointed out that, in the near future, the focus would be narrowed to specific needs such as funding, research, and infrastructure, with academic matters remaining the primary focus.
Babangida remarked, “The overall benefits are numerous. First, it places the institution on the international stage and benchmarks its standards against global practices. This enhances confidence and comfort for anyone seeking collaboration with our university. Secondly, it provides research opportunities. Thirdly, it offers access to funding.”
