EKSU killings: Fayose places N1m reward for information on cultists

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has said the state government will give N1million as reward to anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of cultists in the state university.

Governor Fayose promised in a public service announcement aired on the state’s radio station, on Tuesday night, that “anyone with credible information that can lead to the arrest of the cultists responsible for the murder of two students of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado Ekiti.

In the announcement by his special assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said “information provided will be treated discreetly and identity of whoever offers such information will be protected.”

In a related development, Governor Fayose has said the state under his administration is proposing and sponsoring a bill against incessant killings by student cultists in the state’s university.

The governor said that the bill, when passed into law would prescribe death penalty for anyone found guilty of involvement in cultism.

He added that the bill woukd also propose life imprisonment for anyone who accommodates or associates with the cultists.

Fayose announced the planned bill while interacting with the leaders and members of Ekiti State chapter of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN).

Fayose had invited the farmers to present their challenges in the quest for the development of agriculture in the state, by his government.

The governor said: “It saddened me that students are being killed in the name of cultism. We are sponsoring a bill in the State Houseof Assembly. Anyone caught associating with cultists will face life imprisonment. Anyone confirmed to be a cultist will be punished with death sentence.

“If you are caught involved in cultism, we will give you death sentence; we will treat you as kidnappers. If you accommodate a cult member in your house, you will get life imprisonment. This fight will not be selected, whether you are PDP or APC you will be made to face the sentence.”

Two EKSU students, Segun Ojo (killed in the night of October 23, and Temilade Ayodele (killed on Sunday night) both allegedly by cultists, were the latest in the new spate of cult wars in the institution.

Governor Fayose that the killers would not go unpunished.
