Life and excitement returned to King’s College, Main Campus, Lagos, on Thursday, February 13, 2025, following the restoration of power by Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Disco) after over eight months of darkness.
The Federal Ministry of Education, through the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Folasade Boriowo, announced this in a statement on Friday in Abuja, saying the restoration of electricity supply to the school followed the intervention of the Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa.
The statement read: “In a decisive move to improve learning conditions, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Olatunji Alausa, during an unscheduled visit to King’s College, Main Campus, TBS, Lagos, on Thursday, February 13, 2025, solved the long-pending electricity crisis of the school.
“During the inspection, Dr Alausa discovered that there was a prolonged disconnection of the school from Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Disco), leaving students and staff struggling with inadequate power supply.
“Determined to find an immediate solution, Dr Alausa swiftly engaged Dr Tunji Olowolafe, Chairman of Eko Disco, requesting urgent intervention. Responding promptly, Eko Disco’s CEO, Mrs Rekhiat Momoh, initiated immediate testing procedures and assured full restoration of power to the school.
“In a significant breakthrough, at exactly 9:41 PM yesterday, 19th of February, electricity was restored to the main campus.
“Confirming this milestone solution, the Principal of King’s College, Mr Magaji Zachariah, expressed gratitude, stating, ‘To God be all the glory, our main campus light was restored at exactly 9:41 PM today.’
“Under Dr Alausa’s leadership, the Federal Ministry of Education remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring conducive learning environments across all unity schools in Nigeria,” it stated.
The Minister extended his appreciation to Dr Olowolafe and Mrs Momoh for their swift response and assured continuous monitoring of the situation to ensure sustained power supply.
He added that the intervention underscored the Ministry’s unwavering dedication to upgrading school infrastructure and ensuring that no student is left in the dark, both academically and literally.
