Ekiti varsity to confer honorary degrees on Adeboye, Alakija, others

The Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti (EKSU) has concluded plans to honour four distinguished personalities in the country with honorary doctorate degrees at the institution’s 28th Convocation ceremony.

The Vice-Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Edward Olanipekun, made the disclosure at a press conference heralding activities for the 28th Convocation ceremony billed to hold on Wednesday, 3rd and Thursday 5th April, 2024.

According to the VC, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye will be conferred with a Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa).

The duo of former governor of Ekiti state, Adeniyi Adebayo and Prince Julius Adeluyi will be conferred with the Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa) respectively, while one of the richest women in Nigeria Princess Folorunso Alakija will bag the Doctor of Business Administration (Honoris Causa).

Olanipekun revealed that a grand total of 10,894 graduates will be awarded the Diploma, First Degree, Postgraduate Diploma and Higher Degrees.

“The breakdown of the graduands shows that a total of 91 bagged First Class, 3262 for Second Class Upper Division, 6411 for Second Class Lower Division, 747 for Third Class and 4 for Pass,” he said.

The Convocation Lecture will be delivered by former vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka with the theme: ‘The Future of Nigerian University System’.

He stated that the institution under his leadership secured accreditation from NUC and relevant professional bodies such as MBBS, Nursing Science, Engineering and Law.

Other achievements rolled out by the VC included approval of new Academic Programmes, establishment of EKSU International College, infrastructural developments, staff and students’ welfare, among others.

The Vice-Chancellor, commended the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, for the tremendous support the institution had received from him, and for providing an enabling environment for the EKSU development.
