Ekiti varsity honours Senator Bamidele, Adedeji, Muhtar with doctorate degrees

The Ekiti State University (EKSU) has named the Leader of the Senate, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, among its honorary doctorate degree awardees for the next convocation, slated for March 29.

The institution stated that this recognition is in honor of the Ekiti-Central senator’s contributions to the development of the university, Nigeria, and the international community.

EKSU, through its Registrar, Mr. Ife Oluwole, conveyed the decision of the Governing Council and Senate of the institution to the senator.

Bamidele is to be honored alongside the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zach Adedeji, and the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Bank of Industry (BoI), Dr. Mansur Muhtar.

“I have the pleasure to inform you that the Governing Council and Senate of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, have resolved to honor you with the conferment of an honorary degree, Doctor of Law (Honoris Causa), at the forthcoming convocation scheduled for March 29, 2025.

“The conferment of this degree is purely in recognition of Senator Bamidele’s significant contributions to the development of this university, our dear country, and the international community.

“Other nominees for the conferment of an honorary degree at the forthcoming convocation are the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Dr. Zach Adedeji, and the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Bank of Industry, Dr. Mansur Muhtar, who served as the Minister of Finance under the late President Umaru Yar’Adua,” Oluwole stated in a one-page letter.

The Senate leader’s Directorate of Media and Public Affairs, in a statement on Sunday, thanked the Governing Council and Senate of the institution for their decision to confer the honorary doctorate on him.

Bamidele noted that receiving the honorary doctorate was a challenge that further motivated his pursuit of the greater public good, to which he remains fully committed.

The senator pledged to leverage his position to promote the rule of law, pursue the enactment of pro-people legislation, and champion collective peace and prosperity across the federation.

Previously, the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, conferred a Doctor of Public Law (Honoris Causa) on Bamidele on February 11, 2024. Likewise, Joseph Ayo Babalola University honored him with a Doctor of Public Administration (Honoris Causa) on January 23, 2023.

Both institutions cited his commitment to the development of progressive legislation and the pursuit of national peace as reasons for conferring the honors.
