Ekiti town unions, OCC partner to promote grassroots development

Ekiti State governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has stressed the importance of town unions to grassroots development and inclusive governance.

Speaking during a meeting with presidents of all town unions across the state at Lady Jibowu Hall, Ado-Ekiti at the weekend, the Director-General, Office of Community Communications (OCC), Mrs Mary Omotoso, said that Governor Oyebanji recognises the pivotal role of town unions in community decision-making, effective project implementation and grassroots communication, hence the appointment of a Special Assistant on Town Unions and Association Matters.

The Director-General who highlighted some of the achievements of Oyebanji-led administration, noted that the governor had been executing projects that are community-driven and directly impact the people at the grassroots.

Omotoso, restating the commitment of the governor to grassroots development, said the target is to foster strong relationships with the town unions for effective grassroots communications  and promote sustainable development initiatives tailored towards local communities.

She hinted that the Office of Community Communications will also collaborate with the unions to promote major town festivals and community day celebrations, noting that  this will not only foster unity  in the community but also boost the internally generated revenue of the local government areas.

In their remarks, Mr Adeniyi Kayode from Ido-Ekiti and Ajewole Oladele from Ilemeso-Ekiti appreciated Governor Oyebanji for his leadership style of running an all-inclusive government and involving the grassroots for more development in their various communities

Present at the meeting were Special Adviser on Town Unions and Association, Femi Andero; Special Adviser on Grassroots Communications (North), Moshood Lawal ‘Bamayi’; Special Adviser on Community Communications (South), Busayo Adewusi; Special Adviser on Mobilisation, Obayemi Dolapo and Special Adviser, Governor’s Office, Toyin Tuase.
