Ekiti State emerges overall winner in young Nigerian scientists presidential quiz

Ekiti State has emerged the overall winner in the 2017 Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Quiz Competition held among secondary schools drawn from the 36 states of the federation.

The representative of Ekiti State in the competition held at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Master Oluwatosin Adedipe, came from Shepherd International College, Ado-Ekiti.

Adedipe came first in the the grand finale of the competition held recently tagged: “Young Nigeria Scientists Presidential Award Quiz Competition.”

Master Adedipe contested with 36 other students representing each of the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the quiz centred on core science subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

He defeated the representative of the FCT with three points to emerge the overall winner.

The deputy governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kolapo Olubunmi Olusola, recently received Master Adedipe in his office to congratulate him on what he described as “his landmark success” and to also laud him “for making the state proud by showcasing Ekiti State as truly the Fountain of Knowledge with his excellent performance.”

Dr Olusola, while noting that “Ekiti State has again demonstrated its leadership in the education sector,” described Master Adedipe’s success as “well deserved. and expressed his delight that “the government’s commitment and investment in the education sector have been yielding desired results.”

The deputy governor, who stated that the administration of Governor Ayodele Fayose would always reward excellence and outstanding performance, disclosed that “the best student in the May/June 2016 National Examination Council’s (NECO) has been given scholarship to study Medicine at the University of Ibadan.”

He also commended Adedipe’s teacher and coach, Mr. Emmanuel Ayita, and the Mathematics and Science Department Desk Officer in the state’s Ministry of Education, Mr. Eweje, who taught and prepared him for the competition.

In his remark, the World Bank SEPIP Coordination in Nigeria, Dr. Tunde Adekola, who was present at the event, commended what he said was “the coordinated efforts of the government which are now yielding positive results in the various outstanding performances of the state in the education sector.”

He urged the government “not to deviate from its current giant strides and set standards in the education section,” adding that “the chains of outstanding performances and achievements recorded by the state in education recently showed that Ekiti State has regained its leadership position in the nation’s education.”

Ekiti emerged the overall best in the National Examinations Council (NECO) examinations in 2016.
