The Ekiti State government has said it would soon commence the process of reviewing the state cooperative law guiding operations of cooperative societies in the state.
The State Commissioner for Trade, Industries, Investment Mrs Omotayo Adeola who made this known in Ado-Ekiti during a meeting with representatives of cooperative societies in the state stressed that the government would continue to come up with policies and programmes that would promote the financial standing of cooperative societies in the state.
She added that the government would ensure that the societies across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state are properly run and always on sound financial footing.
While noting the roles of cooperative societies in the economic development of any society, she disclosed that the government would soon fulfill its pledge of injecting one billion naira into the cooperative sector.
Adeola called on the cooperators to repay their outstanding loans within the stipulated time to enable more members of the various cooperative societies to benefit from the gesture.
She stressed the present administration’s resolve to assist cooperative societies to function optimally, assuring that her Ministry would train cooperators who are engaged in business enterprises to enable them to utilize the loans obtained for profitable ventures.
The commissioner who advised the leadership of the cooperative societies to join hands with the staff of her ministry supervising their societies, said that the government was putting in concerted efforts at promoting infrastructure development to attract investors that would drive the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME)in the state.
Speaking on behalf of representatives of the Cooperative Societies, the President of the Mother Union of Cooperative Societies in the State Public Service, Clement Adewumi appreciated Governor Oyebanji, for his efforts at repositioning the trade, industries and cooperative sectors in the State for better service delivery and for his efforts to improve the lots of cooperators in the state.
