Two convicted sex offenders, Basiru Adeyanju and Abiodun Olusola, have been publicly name-shamed by the Ekiti State Ministry of Justice.
Abiodun, on the other hand, formerly of Ijero Ekiti is also currently serving a 10-year prison term for the rape of a 61-year old woman.
In a public notice released by the ministry in its official Facebook account on Thursday, it was stated that the duo of Basiru and Abiodun have been registered in the State’s Ministry of Justice Sex Offenders’ Register and same was published on all social media platforms of the ministry.
This, according to a statement from the office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Olawale Fapohunda, was in furtherance of the zero tolerance policy of the governor Kayode Fayemi’s administration to sexual violence against women and children.
“This is the third and foUrth time Ekiti State will be publicly publishing names of convicted sex offenders in the state. It would be recalled that the first case of public name-shaming was of a former Anglican priest and most recently a man, Ajibade Olaoluwa David who was convicted for raping a 14-year-old girl.
“The Ekiti State Sex Offenders’ Register was opened in 2013. The public shaming policy started In 2019 as part of the additional measures adopted by the ministry to curb the menace of sexual violence in the State,” the statement read.
