Ekiti govt proposes law against abandoning of projects by succeeding administrations

Ekiti State government has said it would soon put a law in place that would prevent succeeding governments from abandoning projects initiated by their predecessors across the state.

The state commissioner for information, tourism, and values orientation, Muyiwa Olumilua who revealed this while speaking at the event commemorating this year’s World Tourism Day in Ado-Ekiti, he said the government would transmit the bill to the state House of Assembly.

According to the commissioner, the law, when put in place, would check the wanton abandonment of multi-million naira projects by succeeding governments.

He lamented the abandonment of the Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort by the immediate past government in the state, saying a huge resource of the state was committed into the project during the first term tenure of Dr Kayode Fayemi as governor.

He disclosed that the government was doing everything possible to make Tourism private sector driven saying, “the government will only provide a more conducive environment for investors to operate.”

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Adekunbi Obaisi, who lauded the State Government for approving the commemoration of the day, said it was to sensitize the public on the Tourist centres that abound in the state.
