Ekiti distributes N213m to 37 communities for World Bank assisted projects

The Ekiti State Government on Monday distributed N213.6 million cheques to 37 communities in support of World Bank sponsored community development projects.

The State Governor Kayode Fayemi who distributed the cheques to the affected communities said that the money was meant for projects that have been started but could not be completed before he left office in 2014.

He noted that the distribution of the counterpart funds to 37 communities was the first phase of his government’s move to complete all outstanding World bank powered community projects during his first tenure.

The governor hinted that work had already begun on all uncompleted five-kilometre roads in the 16 local government areas of the state, adding that his government has increased the number of benefiting communities from two to four per each local councils.

According to him “this is the first stage in the completion of the various abandoned projects, the remaining projects will receive attention. We also considering new requests that were submitted during the last town hall meetings.

“If these projects are well handled and completed in record time, this will guarantee the community to apply for other projects from government

” We are also continuing the rehabilitation of the five-kilometre community roads left uncompleted during our first tenure.”
