Ekiti: Alumni association laments encroachment of school by criminal elements

Alumni Association of the Ekiti State government college, Ado-Ekiti has lamented the recurring encroachment of the school land by hoodlums and criminal elements.

The president of the association, Kayode Fashubaa who stated this at the ‘Prize-Giving and Awards’ of the association in Ado-Ekiti, explained the development put the life of the students and teachers in danger.

He commended the Biodun Oyebanji-led administration for its efforts, specifically, Government intervention through the AGILE project across secondary schools in the state.

According to him, “The Alumni Association since her inception in 2012 put tens of millions worth of intervention in the school. We attempted the perimeter fencing of the school on more than two occasions but some criminal elements came to bring down the structures.

“It is a multi-million naira project and we are committed to seeing it become a reality if the government can wade off trespassers.”
Fashubaa disclosed that the association’s sponsorship of the prize-giving where cash gifts of over N1.7 million and a Laptop computer were shared to encourage students and staff of the school on the need to be dedicated to their studies and work.

The Special Adviser, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Adebimpe Aderiye commended the old students association for their support and services to the development of the school.

While commending the strides and contributions of the Alumni Association to the school over the years, the Special Adviser who was represented by the Executive Secretary of the State’s Scholarship Board, Mrs. Bosede Jegede said their contribution to the development of the school is appreciated by the government.

She explained that the task of funding education shouldn’t be left to the government alone, saying the old student’s consistent intervention is a partnership that will impact the lives of the students greatly.

Speaking, the Principal of the school, Olanipekun Eweje showered encomiums on the Old Students, saying, his decision to give awards of recognition to the association and some sets were a result of the marvelous work being carried out by them.

He added that their contribution was unprecedented and he has decided to open a register where past and future interventions were being recorded for posterity’s sake.

Eweje commended the Alumni Association for always standing in the gap and also being good role models to the students.
