Ekiti 2018: We’ll man Kogi, Kwara, Osun, Ondo states’ borders to Ekiti – Police

The police authorities have announced that boundaries of all the state sharing borders with Ekiti would be manned by their personnel during the governorship election in the state, on Saturday.

A statement made available to newsmen on Sunday by the Commissioner of Pokice, Ekiti Command through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Caleb Ikechukwu, said 30,000 officers and men would be deployed for the election activities and added that the personnel would be drawn from 19 states.

The cCommissioner of Police said the personnel would come from Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Niger, Kebbi, Kwara, Jigawa, Katsina, Lagos and Rivers States.

According to the statement, other commands that would contribute men to the election duty were Rivers, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Delta, Edo, Anambra, Imo and Enugu, saying the police was “fully prepared to deal with hoodlums, miscreants, political thugs, criminal elements who might want to take undue advantage to derail or cause panic during the electoral process.”

The statement added that in addition to the personnel, “the material/equipment deployed include over 350 Toyota Hilux for vehicular patrol, three helicopters for mission specific aerial surveillance and five armoured personnel carriers as well as 10 armoured personnel vehicle (APC) for tactical swift response for emergency situation.”

The statement urged the people of the state to report any suspicious movement to law enforcement agencies, saying they were ready to perform their “statutory duty of providing a peaceful environment devoid of violence and to guarantee that law abiding citizens can freely perform their civic responsibility.”
