A grassroots movement for the mobilisation of support for a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2018 governorship election in Ekiti State, Oshoko Mass Movement (OMM), has announced that 30,000 people have joined the group.
The group’s Director of Publicity, Mr Dayo Akinleye, who made this announcement on Monday, also announced that the movement would be launched in the two other senatorial districts of the state soon.
Akinleye, who is a member of the state House of Assembly representing Ijero constituency, said their projection was 150,000 members ahead of the 2018 election.
According to him, registration with the movement embraced political office holders under the Fayose administration, the private sectors associations, trade unions of all formal and informal sectors in the state, artisans, professionals, civil servants and politicians from any political parties who love Fayose among others.
He added that the people of the state, who belong to the informal sector including trade unions of formal and informal sectors, who have now come under a single umbrella as Conference of Organised Private Sectors of Ekiti State (COPSE), have been joining the OMM as stakeholders.
He said: “They do not belong to any political party, but are following Fayose wherever he goes in 2018. They are also contributing their financial, moral and other quota towards building the movement as it would become their legacy after Fayose’s exit as state governor,” he said.
Akinleye further said: “OMM has today registered over 30,000 members in just about one month of its launching, and this is besides the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who are fully behind the governor. We also have support of all the members of both the formal and informal sectors in the state. We are actually projecting to register 150,000 members. OMM has already set in motion plans well-cut out plans to register youths in Ekiti from age 17 to 21, those who could not have franchise rights in 2014 for 2015 polls, but are by next year going to be eligible for election. The registration exercise of OMM is targeting at least 1000 from each ward for INEC registration. A total of 20,000 youths is being target ted for registration with INEC as voters.
