FRANK Archibong, Chairman, Eket Local Government of Akwa Ibom, says the 60 market stalls under construction at Udua Affiong Etuk will boost business activities in the area when completed.
Archibong told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Eket on Wednesday that the project would soon be handed over to prospective traders.
According to him, the 60 stalls are part of the planned expansion of the market to create additional space for business to flourish.
“We are not going to build any kind of market stalls, we are constructing stalls that will stand the test of time and compete favourably with any market,” Archibong said.
He said that work would soon commence on another popular market, Uduak Nka, by the end of May under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.
A trader who spoke with NAN, Mrs Ekaette Effiong, commended the chairman, saying that the market would be one of the best in the state when completed.
She, however, called for the establishment of modern refuse dump site at the market.
Also speaking, Obong Peter Akpan, a general goods merchant, commended the state and local governments for the rapid infrastructure development of the state.
“The road construction and the market is a welcome development to the people of Eket and its environs, “Akpan said.
NAN reports that the Udua Affiong Etuk market was badly affected by the ongoing road construction in the area.
