THE management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has donated sets of ICT equipment to a non-profit organisation called Wayre Foundation. The foundation is committed to the advocacy and empowerment of young women and girls through ICT training and STEM (Science, Education, Technology and Mathematics) Education.
The donation which is in furtherance of EKEDC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is also a demonstration of EKEDC’s resolve to promote human capital development and Information Communication Technology (ICT) for economic growth and sustainable development.
Some of the equipment that was donated to the ICT training centre in Ikoyi, include 15 desktop computers, printer, scanner and photocopying machine. Others include water dispenser, industrial fan, air conditioners to enhance learning and development.
Dr Arinola Oluwo, the founder of the organisation lauded EKEDC for its responsive and timely intervention. She disclosed that the non-profit organisation reached out to several companies for support but EKEDC is the only company that has so far responded with such a kind gesture.
“We commend EKEDC for showing leadership and demonstrating such uncommon goodwill, this intervention cannot be underestimated, as so many young people will be transformed and empowered.”
She also urged individuals and especially corporate institutions to take a cue from EKEDC’s culture of social responsiveness and responsibility which she described as impeccable and worthy of emulation.
Dr Oluwo concluded by reiterating the commitment of the organisation to leverage on ICT and STEM Education for capacity building and empowerment of women and youth to optimise their potential and contribute to nation building.
Chief Audit and Compliance Officer, EKEDC, Sherie Adegbenro, expressed the delight of EKEDC to partner with the organization in women and youth empowerment. She observed that EKEDC is conscious of the opportunities that ICT afford and has since keyed into the drive for digital inclusion and youth empowerment.
She also noted that EKEDC will not relent in its CSR effort and drive which is part of its contribution to ensure economic prosperity and national development.
